The Professional Politicians

Welcome to Swamp Central.

You would think the people who are supposed to represent the people should have actually worked in the private sector first.  It would make sense, if you are going to stand up for the common man and woman, you too would have been in their shoes at one point or another and have to live check to check.  To really get an idea what “real life” is all about.  But lo and behold you just have to look at the Senate to see just how disconnected they are from the people.  There are 100 Senators in office, (I would do the house too, but I don’t have that kind of time).

Let’s look state by state at those who are in the Senate who have never had a real job.

Alabama: Richard Shelby (R) Graduated law school in 1963 and has always worked for the government.

California: Dianne Feinstein (D) Graduated from Standford and went straight to work for the Government. Kamala Harris (D) Graduated from Law School and went to work for the Government.

Colorado: Cory Gardner (R) Graduated from Law School and went to work for the government.

Connecticut: Chris Murphy (D) Another graduating law school and going to work for the government.

Florida: Marco Rubio (R) Law School to Government work.

Hawaii: Brian Schatz (D) Only possible real work was working for/running non-profits. Mazie Hirono (D) Law School to Government work.

Idaho: Jim Risch (R) Law School to Government work

Illinois: Dick Durbin (D) Law School to Government work.

Indiana: Joe Donnelly (D)  Law School to Government work.

Iowa: Chuck Grassley (R) Right from College to running for office.

Kansas: Jerry Moran (R) Law School to Government work

Kentucky: Leader Mitch McConnell (R) Yes even he did the Law School to Government work route.

Maine: Susan Collins (R) Law School to Government work

Maryland: Ben Cardin (D) Actually ran for office before finishing Law School and won. Chris Van Hollen (D) Another Law School to Government work.

Michigan: Debbie Stabenow (D) Ran for office while in grad school.

Missouri: Claire McCaskill (D) Law School to Government work

Nevada: Catherine Cortez Masto (D) Law School to Government Work

New Jersey: Bob Menendez (D) ran for office at 20 and won, been in Goverment ever since, well at least until he goes to jail.  Cory Booker (D) Law School to Government work.

New Mexico: Tom Udall (D) Law School to Government work. Martin Heinrich (D) 5 years at a non-profit to government work.

New York: Chuck Schumer (D) You were really surprised his name was here?

North Dakota: Heidi Heitkamp (D) Law School to Government work.

Ohio: Sherrod Brown (D) Master Degree to Government work.

Oregon: Jeff Merkley (D) Law School to Government work.

Rhode Island: Sheldon Whitehouse (D) Law School to Government work.

South Dakota: John Thune (R) Master Degree to Government work.

Tennessee: Lamar Alexander (R) Law School to Government work.

Texas: John Cornyn (R) Law School to Government work. Ted Cruz (R) Law School to Government work.

Utah: Mike Lee (R) Law School to Government work.

Vermont: Patrick Leahy (D) Law School to Government work.

Washington: Maria Cantwell (D) Bachelors Degree to Government Work.

Wisconsin: Tammy Baldwin (D) Elected to an office after getting her BA and got her Law Degree while in office.

So that is 34 out of 100 who have never had a real job, 12 Republicans and 22 Democrats, and that includes the Majority Leader and Minority Leader.  The sad truth is we are the only ones who can Drain The Swamp.  Naturally they won’t do term limits, because they want the job security.  We need real people, serving the people in Congress.

As always comments are always welcome.
